I always wonder why gimp don’t have such “compositor” for every layer … like smart object in photoshop. It would make everything easier.

Hey Andrew, I need help @9:30. I am not sure how you got both sides of the cube to turn the way you did. I extruded them and rotated but when I rotate it gets all funky and doesn’t turn like yours. I’m not sure what I am doing wrong. Could you or anyone help?

  • Stefano Corrado

I followed this tutorial once but I wasn’t good enough to follow it throughout but with the tips I got from this I managed to make my own iPhone down the line:

Anyone else having trouble with the background image only showing-up in the camera view . . . . ?

    • Bryce

Got it . . . Viewing a background image does not work in perspective; switch to orthographic.

  • Ian

    Hi,
    It’s really well done!
    I’m progressing well through the tutorial but find little things stopping me from proceeding;
    1. You keep saying ‘scale’ when (I think) you mean ‘extrude’. So I’m not sure if I’m following correctly.
    2. You didn’t say how you set up the background to utilise both the front and the side on the one screen.
I’m very grateful for your hard work on this and many other tutorials.

FYI the “Modified iPhone Background” link is broken. Making my own…

    Tip – at 15:35.

It’s easier to fill a circle by doing the following:

    Extrude all vertices > [alt] + [m] (i.e. merge) > “At Center”

The most valuable thing that I have ever dropped has to be my 25 grand sigma 200-500 f 2.8 lens. lol

It would have to be my laptop. Luckily i dropped it onto a couch so there was no damage. =D

    Really nice tut!

Heym I’m having the same problem as Highchiller. The vector blur does not work. How can I fix this? And what is and how can I change this timestep?

I’ve got same problem with the exploding granade tutorial. Just can’t get the vector blur to work (I checked “vector” box in rander layers panel). Plz help.

    • Rob

Hey, i’ve had the same issue, and even despite finding Timestep/Tweak i couldn’t fix it. Btw, it’s located under particle system -> physics.

The only way i could fix it was reverting back from 2.6 to 2.58. I’d also suggest downloading his .blend file.

      Besides that, another great tutorial!

  • Highchiller

Well, i think the problem was the false timestep (is called “tweak” in this version of Blender which used in tutorial) particles. The standart was 0.04 and thats too low of course.
    Now it works :)
    My Version: http://www.abload.de/img/smashediphone6ugr.jpg

  • Highchiller

:( the vector blur doesnt work :(
i take a tick for “dynamic” and “vector”… and i render and render all the time, but never the blur works…
    anyone got an idea?

PS: awesome tut :) i like it very well
AND very sorry for this BAD english :(

    Hey, A.P. !!
Thanks for this tutorial. It’s Very instructive !
Waiting for “How to smash a HTC Desire”, now. ^_^
Me and a friend started using blender 3 weeks ago and found your website.
It has become sort of online classroom for us.
Thank you, keep improving your “blenderguring” skills,
I think you can make Shrek 5 or 6. HAHA !

Keep on Blending in the free world !
    Greetings from Toulon, France !

Actually, water is their number one enemy lol

  • Spencer Franklin

Relatively new to Blender and I was able to understand your tutorial perfectly. I saved an image after I put in all the lights and particles with the I-Phone to show my family. Basically everything before compositing. However, when I tried to render the image again to composite, it won’t render the particles anymore. I’ve run into this issue before with earlier, simple projects and I’ve always had sporadic results in fixing it. Usually I just redo the particle system as a whole. However, this is more complicated and having already attempted it once, to no avail, I would be very appreciative if you someone could explain why this is happening.

  • http://ampace.wordpress.com Andy Pace

As always, enormously impressive, even more so that you completed it in under an hour. Great tutorial for demonstrating a wide range of techniques.
