Introduction to the Compositor

Finally a compositing tutorial for beginners!

Length:
22 minutes
Software:
Blender 2.5
Difficulty:
Beginner
Rate:
VN:F [1.9.11_1134]
Rating: 4.9/5 (19 votes cast)

During the video you will learn:

  • How to make a killer night time scene
  • The answers to 3 common beginner questions
  • The fundamentals of compositing
  • Why compositing is similar to food production (no really!)
  • How to add eye popping glow and glare effects
  • How to add a background image quickly and easily without re-rendering

Since starting Blender Guru a year ago, I’ve received a TON of emails from people asking for help with the compositor. I’d even go so far as to say it’s been the most requested tutorial.

So today I’ve decided to answer all those requests and create a tutorial:

    Beautiful tutorial!
This time would be a very handy gift if you shared the blend too! :) Would you please? :)

Sounds great! Please release a version in text so that people with low bandwidth connections can use it! It would be awesome if you did something like how you presented Creating Volumetric Clouds or Creating Depth of field. That way people can read the awesome tutorials without having to try and download pdfs through special services that may or may not be blocked by their ISPs. (Like the Creating Realistic Fire tutorial)

    Thanks :D

    Hi,

    This is my second try.

    Link is here:http://haqzaf.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d2yackn

In this try only the green man fiigure enhanced to show glow, glare effect, which was tutorial essence.
In my earlier link, all the green man surface was applied glow and glare effect.
I have better understanding of compositing and how to isolate and mask only the selected mesh to add material, texture, add effects like glow, glare.
    Thanks to Andrew Price.

Well done again. Any chance of including the blend file – it would make working with the WOW Factor and starting to get into the compositor a heck of a lot easier.

  21. Eddie November 15, 2010 at 10:53 am #

where is the original blend file?

  22. hetors April 9, 2011 at 12:57 am #
