Quick question – I’m using the most recent version of Blender and my smoke won’t work using your method. I’ve got extra options on the physics tab, and despite trying a few different things I can’t work out how to get my smoke working like yours.

Instead, my particles just drop from the edges of the emitter as they would with a normal particles setting, not a smoke setting.

Is this a common issue/can anyone provide a solution that’ll allow me to produce the same effect in this video on the newer version? It’s really stressing me out!

Thank you so much. BEING CAREFUL and having some prior knowledge of media production has ensured that this tutorial works in the way it was intended. My mind is expanding enormously thanks to Blender and your insight.
Massive, massive props to you. Thank you again.

To fix the dynamic rotation problem you may be able to put a plane in front of it with a collision physics and then turn of the render for the object in the outliner. Might not work though.

n case anyone still has this issue, I fixed it by positioning the orange spot at the base of the rock in edit mode as Andrew says in 20:30ish.

    Hello Andrew.
I would like to thank you for creating that tutorial. It helped me a lot. I will post my creation soon but first i have to finish it. Thanks a lot again!

    Hey Andrew.
Wanted to say thanks for making these toots. You’re pretty good at it. Sometimes it’s a bit hard to follow you, but the key/mouse logs really help out a lot. I downloaded blender for the first time when to try your video. It was quite painstaking to try to figure out the basics from this video, basics like panning and zooming and all those things. But in the end, I am happy with my result. I skipped a few steps that you did, but well, whatever,,

    here is my result

  • Ben

Hi there, I was just wondering instead of getting the text to drop in how do you make it fade instead?

  • Chris

Having a problem with my particles. when they hit the Plane. They stick as they should but they rotate in the spot.

  • CrenVerdis

Thank you for this tutorial. It was my very first Blender project and it is by no means that good or special, but I learned quite a bit from this tutorial. :D
