This week we will be combining Blender’s powerful typography tools and the particle system to create an eye catching motivation poster.

Here’s the finished result:

I’m not sure where I originally heard the phrase “Break the Mold” but it stuck with me ever since. I even had this exact design sketched out on the whiteboard next to my PC as a way to encourage originality. By the way, if you’d like to hear more about my thoughts on originality check out my latest video: How to be Original and come up with Fresh Ideas ;)

Important News!

I’m going to be honest and say that I am getting absolutely SWAMPED with emails. Everything from “Please recommend me some tutorials” to “Please help me with this blender problem”. And whilst it’s very flattering to receive so much attention, it’s also extremely time consuming. In fact if I answered every email personally I would only be able to bring you half the number of tutorials I currently do! So rather than do that I’ve decided to join the craze that is sweeping the internet:

Introducing… The Blender Guru Live Cast

That’s right… I will be firing up my web cam and answering all your questions LIVE, tonight! This way I can interact with you in real time and give my fingers a rest from typing so much ;)

Here’s the details:

Where: UStream – http://www.ustream.tv/channel/the-blender-guru-show

hey im enjoying blender alot, just got 2.54, i started blending about a week ago, and i had already figured out how to make snow before i watched the tutorial, my freind has been using the old 2.49 for forever, which means he had no clue where thngs were in blender, but i have just one question, i have limited access to tutorials, or even some modes of help due to the fact of limited comp access (that has internet), my comp is excellent, but its not connected to the internet, because i only have wifi….i was wondering if it would be possible to put downloads of your tutorial videos on ths website or something, so as i might be able to download them, along with others?
    Thank you,
(from all the people at Dead Man productions :D )

    @ Jeff Bright
Almost always Mr. Price makes the tutorials available for download at Vimeo.com. Just click on the Vimeo logo on the embedded video and then on Vimeo, look for the download link at the bottom right pole.
    Regards and happy blending.

Hi can you post the texture that you made please.

FOR THOSE OF YOU WITHOUT A PREMIUM CGTEXTURES ACCOUNT:

Ok, I just wanted to post a quick tip here for those of you who don’t use CGTextures Premium. At their site, if you only have a Basic account, you can’t get the high resolution decal texture WITH alpha channel. Here’s how you can:

    1. Download the second image in the texture Andrew references to, and the alpha channel for it (The third image)

    2. In Photoshop, load both images.

    3. Under ‘Windows’ turn on the ‘Channels’ window if you don’t have it already.

    4. Add a new alpha channel to the main image and copy the Alpha channel for the picture to the new, empty channel you created. Tick off the Alpha channel box so you can see it.

    5. Under layers, double click the Background and select ‘Ok’ to change it to ‘layer 0′.

    6. Back under channels, double-lick the Alpha channel and change the opacity to 100%

    7. Using the magic wand tool with tolerance at 1% and contiguous and Anti-alias turned off, select anywhere in the red area.

    8. Making sure the RGB channel is selected, press delete and hide the Alpha channel by un-ticking it’s box.

    9. Presto! De pies de resistance! Save as .png or other Alpha-retaining layer, and you’ve got it!

NOTE: This procedure can be used for almost any CGTextures Decal texture with alpha channel.

Andrew I sent you an email request about kinetic typography. Here are some examples:

    http://joaobordalo.com/articles/2007/08/15/top-12-kinetic-typography-films

Hope it comes up, it would be a really nice add to the tutorials section and a huge alternative to after effects expensive software on some forms of motion graphics, like this one.

    Thank you!

    Great tutorial.
    I learn a lot from it !
Just one question : how can I save the image generated by the compositor ?

    Thanks

  12. Brodes June 27, 2011 at 3:26 pm #

Michele, once you’re in render preview (after hitting F12), hit F3 to save the image
