Free Mazda RX-8 model

Posted on 10. May, 2009 by Andrew Price in Freebies

Go nuts! You are free to use this model in all personal and commercial works! It includes headlights, tail lights, basic interior, rims, grills, everything bar the mechanics.

Do what you want with it, just don’t take the corners too fast.

Enjoy! As always, I’m interested to see what creations you come up with, so if you put it in a scene be sure to post a link back to it!

    Ever since using the commodore 64 I have always wanted to make a detailed car in 3D. I think now I’m getting much closer to that dream with blender :)

    Thanks a lot for sharing. I’m curious about one thing though, why are the wheel rims different in the model from the render?

    @john caldwell
    Sorry, I’ve been busy with several other projects so I don’t always have time. And yes, I do have a car tutorial planned for release in approx 2 months. It will cover absolutely everything to do in the creation of a car. Stay tuned!

    @Dave
    What OS are you using? I just tried downloading it with Firefox and it worked? Have you tried IE or Safari? There is also a chance the server was down at the exact time you were looking for it. Maybe try again?

    You are awesome!!! i read that you are going to make a tutorial on how to make a car from the beginning. I have a question: this tutorial is going to be based on reference images of the car?? i hope it will because i have been breaking my head to find something like that. Sorry if my english is not so good. Thank You.

    I downloaded the .blend file and i saw an image reference there and i was wondering if you just used that side view image or if you used different views blueprints for making the car. I hope you can answer me soon. Thanks again!!!

    @ leebz:

    Uh, you could export it as a Collada file, but good luck rendering it real-time… (You should try to keep it around 10-20K polygons for normal computers, 1-2K polys for mobile devices like the iPhone, and around 50K-150K polys for next-gen consoles and high-end computers)

    Andrew, when I click on the link, I get a webpage that just contains text like this:

    @Jake
    Try right clicking the image and selecting Save Link As.

    For some reason, it did not post the rest of my message above. Anyway, the text is a bunch of random symbols that continue for thousands of pages. I am running Mac OS X 10.6.3 with Safari. Can you help?

    Awseome work :) ! One thing, there are too much elements and my computer gets stuck. Do you think you can release another blender file with no lighting and without the plane behind it?

    where do i download it

  36. Gungnir

    10. Jun, 2010

    @ jone:
    Right-click on the image that says “Download the .blend” and select something like “Download Linked File” or “Save Target” (the name of the download option depends on your browser).
