Changes to Blender Guru

As many of you may be aware, I’ve been producing Blender tutorials on a weekly basis for quite some time now. And whilst this has worked great for the site, I am now wanting to explore more broader themes and challenges than just tutorials. Which is why I’ve decided to implement a few changes:

Watch the video

Articles

Something I’ve missed writing about is the fundamentals of Blender and best-of community artwork posts. They aren’t video tutorials but they are necessary for artists to develop their skills and think of the bigger picture. So from here on out you’ll be seeing a lot more of these posts on Blender Guru. Starting with tomorrow’s post about how to reduce your rendertimes.

Focused Critique Segment

Some of you may remember that back in May, I announced a new segment called ‘The MakeOver’, but due to my poor time management I never had a chance to follow through with it! Well all that is about to change. I’ve relabeled the segment ‘Focused Critique’ and will be launching the first segment this Thursday. It’s already recorded and ready to publish. Stay tuned! :)

Guest Tutors

Every once in a while you will see a tutorial from someone other than me. Crazy I know! But there are lots of artists out there (better than me) who have valuable information to share and I’d be fool if I didn’t let them share it here on this site. I am hard marker so only the highest quality of work will appear here.

If you are interested in applying, go here.

No monthly themes

A downside to these changes is that I will have to end the monthly theme idea. It was fun while it lasted but with article posts, guest tutors and other changes it will be impossible to keep up. I may start it up again in the future, but for now I’m going to leave it.

So what do you think of these changes? Do you have any further tips on how Blender Guru could be improved? Let me know in the comments below.

About Andrew Price

I like long walks on the beach and yelling out during movies. My cat's name is dog, and my dog's name is cat. I am hilarious. I like Blender.

    Andrew,

As other already have said, your video tutorials are such a great source of inspiration.
They are the reason why i have a bookmark for the site and why i visit it often.

The recent changes towards “focused critique” and “articles” isn’t near as exiting as your tutorials.
The tutorials doesn’t always have to be massive, but i’d like to see them more often than now.

Thanks for all great work, but please get back to the video tutorial path again.

I miss seeing weekly tutorials. I learned a lot from them.

    I knew this would happen.
everyone starts off strong, then they run out of steam.
I’m not interested in articles or critiques at all, my interests are in video tutorials.
If you want to be a news site then change the name of the site to Blender news and a few tutorials. :)

I’m sure there will be others who really don’t mind, and that’s fine for them.

I understand your motive Andrew do what you feel is right! and what is best for you and for others I’m sure it was very demanding for you to make a tutorial EVERY week but i’m sure you’ll start missing it soon enough and make a couple regularly so no worries there just keep up the good work you’re doing well! and by the way beautiful trees over there in Australia! It reminds me of South Africa funny enough.
