It would be great if you could give a tutorial over the Video Editor.

how about a heat haze, as this is a great subtlety. Yet for the heat haze to be isolated to a certain area so it could be used over say a hot engine or an exhaust rather than a full scene.

everything you have been doing is great keep up the great work… onething i think you have skipped on is projected particles like bullets i mean i have alot of understanding in programing how to do particles and straight line movement but say i want to make a video on blender it isnt going to help me much if i cant get it to work in blender but…. again keep it going

  7. Dave June 6, 2010 at 2:05 am #

I think this is more of a troubleshooting thing: but it might be a tutorial thing….lets see:
In the texture section I put images to models for example carpet on the floor with carpet borders…etc. Then I save everything and because I’m going to be working on another computer I transfer the blender file to a memory stick or copy it onto a CD-R disk. Everything is ok so far……Then when i open that file with another computer none of the images are there, just grey models. (**note I keep all the images in the same folder as the blender file when I transfer) “everytime” I have to go into the texture section and remove the images from the model and reload it back in (I try the “reload” button and it does nothing)….I can’t find an answer anywhere….except “reload images”…..I really hope there’s a tutorial to solve this it’s very frustrating when you have “alot” of images in the project.

  8. Pascal June 6, 2010 at 3:50 am #

Dave, you just have to set file paths to relative in the user preferences panel.
Then re-save your file and move them again to another computer.

wow, congratulations for going full time ^^ (maybe you could make a link where people can donate and other methods to pay because some might not like pay pal xD) i wish you lots of luck for the future (and hope you don’t run out of problems to solve for us xD)

  11. Adhir June 7, 2010 at 9:41 pm #

    Oh…!

Its really a hard decision, but thanks a lot for creating such a wonderful learning tutorial :)

You are really inspiring the peoples like me ;) I also love to post tutorials :)

  12. Niko June 8, 2010 at 12:06 am #

How about some kind of a game :)
and u should do it cause u never maked one… well maby u have maked one but no tutorial or download of it :D

  13. Rémi June 9, 2010 at 10:00 pm #

    Congratulations mate !

  14. Liraco June 10, 2010 at 11:53 am #

Congrats on taking the plunge! Can’t wait to see what comes next from the site and the makeover idea sounds awesome. I second “rain” and/or lightning for another weather effect. I’d imagine that setting up something like a tree being moved by wind would be beyond the scope of these tutorials.

As for another theme I’d imagine you don’t mean like “uv mapping” right? Perhaps “light”? Daytime, sunrise, sunset, a convincing moon, that sort of thing (some of which you’ve covered already).

  15. kingcreole June 11, 2010 at 4:10 am #

theres one thing i’ve never seen anywhere else: realistic lightning (not lamps i mean energy based lightning from thunder xD) would be gread if you could help me out with that

  16. pzzs7f June 11, 2010 at 5:09 am #

I could really use a tutorial on how to simulate gunfire in Blender…like from a machine gun or cannon or rifle, etc. Mostly interested in learning this for still shots (not animation). Also heat exhaust, like from a jet engine would be good.

  17. SoulDread June 11, 2010 at 9:09 pm #

First off congratulations on getting to do what you love to do full time. I took me almost 10 years to figure out how to do that. Anyway I would love to see a tutorial on how to produce a sand storm. I’ve been using some like it hot to make something I’m working on more realistic, but not quite getting the effect I want. Thank you for all the work you have done and good luck.

  18. Barney Worthington June 13, 2010 at 7:55 pm #

So I have downloaded Blender, even spent 1/2 hour poking around at it, but I still do not have much of an idea of what it is. Is it a system for designing games? Is it a graphics program for static 3D images? Is it a full multimedia video creation program? What is its primary purpose and why pick it rather than Corel Draw, Autocad, Flash, Sonar, Audition, Photopaint, Photoshop, etc.

Is it all these things and more?
Why the wierd interface that doesn t conform to Windows standards (lets face it, the ONLY good thing about Windows is the standard interface – ie. if you can use one program, you can pick up another much easier because you already know where to look for “things”. I admit, macromedia started it – going against the standard, and now even microsoft is doing the same. Why? The Microsoft motive is money. A new face on an old product means more sales of said product, more training, more certifications, etc. $$

But why is Blender SO different from any other product? Is it primarily designed to run under Unix-type OS and therefore those involved just started from scratch on the user interface – expressing their individuality? Why and What?? Who and Where? Most of all “how”?

I’m happy for you bud, you inspire a 46 year old! Good on ya, mate.

    Barney from Canada

  19. Benjamin June 14, 2010 at 12:48 am #

Well, as far as I can tell…it doesn’t have one primary purpose. It has one primary topic, that of 3D, but that encompasses a lot. It has a game engine (for 3D games), compositing tools (for static 3D images), sophisticated tools for animation (for 3D animation, obviously), and so on. And, granted, Blender has a different interface, but since it’s from scratch it looks the same whatever computer you’re on.

And by the way, if you’re worried about the interface, try downloading Blender 2.5 Alpha. It’s got a more sophisticated UI, but it is still a bit buggy. It’s worth a try though.

  20. Moolah June 14, 2010 at 7:01 am #

    Hi, Barney!
I think that here is a strange place to start such a discussion :)
You can ask (or even SEARCH) this on blenderartists.org and you’ll get many answers ;)
This site was named blenderGURU :) Not blenderWhy or even blenderFlame ;)
People who usually seat on this site already know why are they loving Blender and it’s community.
One thing I want to tell you without trolling is:
I learned Modo… then I got that it generally dissapointed me. It has very comfortable interface (it was before Blender 2.5.2 alpha), cool modelling features and a very good rendering engine… But when I really noticed it’s horrible memory management, aweful display engine (only OpenGL!).. then I realised that I learned some things there but generally I see that Blender is much much better and Blender’s community is even the best I seen!

since u are going full time
Why can u go for a gaming project to show ur skills and blender’s gaming capabilities.
A free roaming game on cross platforms with help from all developers and your fans.can u imagine such a time?

These days blender and python is getting good reputations even in INDIA

    Keep up ur good work
    Thanks

I reckon it would be great if you did some animation tutorials.

  23. Ron Bewick June 21, 2010 at 3:24 am #

    Andrew,

I would like to be able to do a fluid animation doing the following:

    (1) flowing through pipes
    (2) pouring out of a bottle into a glass or other container, showing the glass/container filling up as it does so.

The available tutorials I have found usually consist of a large blob making a splash into a glass/container or else show some kind of room being flooded.

    Thanks for all you do!

    Hi!
I am one of the guys working for the vSwarm free render farm project.
What do you think about writing a short tutorial on how to use it for rendering complex animations with blender.
I would assist you if help is needed, feel free to contact us / me.
Keep up the good work and i hope to hear from you.

    Hi Andrew,

It sounds very having more tutos every week from you. You are one of the best artists I found in Internet who talks about Blender 3D. Now, wuth Blender 2.50 is even nice having tutorials related to subjects that we have difficult to understand. I am only use Blender 3D as free hours toy, but I knew it since 2005. When I follow your tutos I understand that I have many things to know yet. Congratulations for your initiative and as soon as you launch your DVDs I will buy one of them (if it were not so expensive for a Brazilian guy).

I will also publish your tutos in my Blog Blender Maniacs as soon as you lanch them in your site.

    See you…

    Tio Ilmo

I would greatly appreciate knowing what computer setup you are using as well as your blender settings. It takes hours for even small projects to render for me and I have a fairly powerful setup. I think a lot of us could benefit from knowing what type of computer and specs that you have. Thanks.

fantastic site \m/… thanks for the tutorials ^^…. will be sticking this @ my bookmarks toolbar….. yey ^^

  34. Shaul July 20, 2010 at 3:44 pm #

Absolute newbie here and would love to see a months worth of beginner tutorials. Examples of what the platform can do. How you can use Blender. Unorthodox uses for blender. Some easy quick tutorials that are very bite size. Kind of a like a beginners corner. I have limited time to learn and so spending an hour is tough when I have a lot of other items on my plate so anything that you can do that is super bite size would be awesome. Looking forward to learning more and visiting the site and learning from you. Good luck!

Hrmm that was weird, my comment got eaten. Anyway I wanted to say that it’s nice to know that someone else also mentioned this as I had trouble finding the same info elsewhere. This was the first place that told me the answer. Thanks.

Hey, just looking around some blogs, seems a pretty nice platform you are using. I’m currently using WordPress for a few of my sites but looking to change one of them over to a platform similar to yours as a trial run. Anything in particular you would recommend about it?
